Is this you?

  • A blank white screen where your site used to be
  • "There has been a critical error on this website"
  • The site went down straight after a WordPress, plugin or theme update
  • Two plugins, or a plugin and your theme, no longer work together
  • Browsers show "Not secure" or an SSL warning
  • You're locked out of the WordPress admin

Seeing spam redirects or a "Deceptive site ahead" warning? That's a hack, not a fault: see hacked site cleanup.

Before you do anything else

  • Don't reinstall WordPress or delete plugins at random
  • Don't restore an old backup until someone has checked it
  • Write down what changed just before it broke
  • Check your hosting account for disk space or billing warnings

What we check first

Most emergencies come down to a small number of faults. This is what usually causes each one and where we look.

What you seeCommon causesWhat we check
White screenA PHP fatal error with error display switched off, often after a plugin update or when the site runs out of memory.Server error logs, the most recent updates, the PHP memory limit.
"There has been a critical error on this website"A plugin, theme or piece of custom code crashing WordPress. WordPress usually emails the admin address naming the file involved. The recovery-mode email, error logs, and the plugin or theme they point to.
"Error establishing a database connection"Wrong database details after a host move, a database server that is down, or a damaged table.Database settings in wp-config, database status with your host, table repair.
Site broke after an updateTwo plugins that no longer work together, or an update that needs a newer PHP version than your server runs.Which update ran last, its changelog, and a rollback tested on a copy of the site.
SSL warning or "not secure"An expired certificate, or pages still loading images and scripts over http.Certificate expiry, site address settings, hard-coded http links in content and theme.
Locked out of the adminA changed password or email, a security plugin blocking you, or a broken login page.User records in the database, security plugin settings, the login page itself.

Questions we get asked

What if you can't fix it?

You don't pay. If we can't get the site working, the $599 is refunded in full. If the real fix is bigger than an emergency repair, such as a rebuild, we tell you before doing anything and you decide.

How fast is "by morning"?

Most fixes are done by the next morning. Order by 5pm Eastern and it's done by 9am Eastern. If a fix depends on something outside our control, such as your host restoring a server, we tell you as soon as we know.

What access do you need?

Your WordPress admin and your hosting account, or hosting alone if the admin area won't load. After you pay, we send a link to a secure form, so passwords never go by email. Where we can, we create our own login so you can delete it afterwards.

Will I lose content?

No. We take a full backup of your files and database before we touch anything. If a change doesn't work, the site goes back exactly as it was.

Is $599 the whole price?

Yes, for one emergency. It covers the diagnosis, the fix, the report and 30 days of the Care plan. If we find a second, unrelated problem, we tell you and quote it before doing any work on it.

What if it breaks again?

During your 30 days of care, a problem that comes back is handled under the plan. After that, the Care plan at $249/month keeps updates tested on a copy of your site first, which is how most of these emergencies start.
